In Thursday's meeting we talked about getting the rest of the stories and photos submitted soon (in the next week) so we can compile the first issue - stories can be submitted for the time being to the email address: [email protected] but we will investigate if using the application Dropbox might be a better way, so that the editorial staff can share the contents of the folder and everyone view what's in there. Stay tuned on this issue while we test it out. We will also need to have all photographers get together with Jane (and Mrs. Oliphant) to go through the photos we have and also figure out how to use the iMac in Mrs. Wiseman's room to upload pics to, so stay tuned on this issue too. We also talked about the difference between a columnist type of story and a news type of story -- the columnist will write with firsthand details (I did this or I saw that - "I participated in the parade and it was fun.") whereas a news story does not give firsthand details but just facts (The parade was interesting and many students participated."). We also discussed how to add more details into a story if it needs to be longer - an example would be if the sentence was "The students dressed in North Park colors." to add in the details of what the colors are so the sentence would then be: "The students dressed in North Park colors, which are green, black and silver." In reverse, if a story needs to be edited down, then such details could be taken out.
Editors will be emailing you for stories and photos in the next week or so. Also, see the sidebar for a page on Interview questions/ideas -- great for Teacher Spotlight articles.
