On Thursday Nov. 29 we took a trip to Mrs. Wiseman's room to look at the new computer that we will be using to download pictures and stories. We also went over on how to use Dropbox (how to view and download files). -- Emma
In Thursday's meeting we talked about getting the rest of the stories and photos submitted soon (in the next week) so we can compile the first issue - stories can be submitted for the time being to the email address: [email protected] but we will investigate if using the application Dropbox might be a better way, so that the editorial staff can share the contents of the folder and everyone view what's in there. Stay tuned on this issue while we test it out. We will also need to have all photographers get together with Jane (and Mrs. Oliphant) to go through the photos we have and also figure out how to use the iMac in Mrs. Wiseman's room to upload pics to, so stay tuned on this issue too. We also talked about the difference between a columnist type of story and a news type of story -- the columnist will write with firsthand details (I did this or I saw that - "I participated in the parade and it was fun.") whereas a news story does not give firsthand details but just facts (The parade was interesting and many students participated."). We also discussed how to add more details into a story if it needs to be longer - an example would be if the sentence was "The students dressed in North Park colors." to add in the details of what the colors are so the sentence would then be: "The students dressed in North Park colors, which are green, black and silver." In reverse, if a story needs to be edited down, then such details could be taken out.
Editors will be emailing you for stories and photos in the next week or so. Also, see the sidebar for a page on Interview questions/ideas -- great for Teacher Spotlight articles. Meeting Thursday - remember to meet in Mr. Iblings room. Those of you who are working on stories, please have them at least started this week - have received stories from Emma and Mia and pics from various people already - we will discuss how to arrange the workflow of pics and articles at our meeting - with a group of our staffers being in chorus, we will need to step up the email and/or technology aspect of communication this year so all can feel involved if they cannot make every meeting. If you have pics to submit for the first issue of the Halloween Parade, Red Ribbon week, or anything else, either bring your camera on Thursday or email them to me this week. Our Photo Editor, Jane, will decide what will go in once she sees everything.
Also, please check the Story Ideas page for information as to what everyone is writing about and needing photos for... |
